Do you have Acne? Are you tired of staring in the mirror wishing your acne would just go away? Did you know that acne is treatable and in some cases curable? It could be that your diet and lifestyle has caused you to suffer from this horrible condition.
For four years I struggled with acne before I finally realized that changing my lifestyle was the only cure. I have put together a guide to beating acne based on my experiences and the experiences of others. The guide will be validated by the people who try it. If people share this guide I will expand on the information.
WHAT CAUSES ACNE?
- The wrong attitude towards your face’s ability to cleanse itself.
- A poor diet.
Increased hormone and natural oil production during certain stages of life are not the cause of acne, but they make the skin more vulnerable towards getting it.
Let’s start by fixing your skin’s PH level by cleaning it: the natural!
Do you remember when you were a teenager? The medicated wipes, creams, lathers, and soaps from Pro-Active and Neutrogena. All of these topical treatments are harsh on your skin and alter its natural state.
You should under no circumstances put harsh soaps, makeup, or medicated treatments on your face or shampoo/conditioner in your hair in a way that it can leak onto your face. If your skin is greasy, embrace the greasiness, especially if you are Greek or Italian like me. The biggest mistake I made was thinking there was something wrong with a healthy, oily, vibrant face. Oily is natural if you are of Medditeranian decent.
Natural PH levels are extremely important when fighting acne! IF you have to use shampoo use a very small amount and lean your head back. Dirt does not cause acne, this is a myth. If your face is visibly dirty and you want to clean it, dab your face (not rub) with a clean warm towel, preferably one that hasn’t been washed in harsh detergent.
Use a pillow that has not been washed for a while that reflects your skin’s natural PH.
If you are a woman and you have to put makeup on your face you are perpetuating your acne. You will be much cuter when your acne is gone than you are now with makeup caked over your zits.
If you are a man, don’t shave unless you absolutely have to (you have a job interview or something). Tell your date to embrace the stubble, she will love your soon-to-be acne-free face.
Obviously, you should not pick your pimples. If they are on the verge of popping you can pop them lightly with the towel so you don’t have whiteheads everywhere. If you find yourself picking your face you are spreading the infection and you may delay the cure or worse, scar your face. Keep your hands away from your face.
Now that you understand that natural methods of cleansing are better for your face, let’s focus on what you put into your body.
You should snack as regularly and as often as possible on anything that doesn’t come pre-packaged in a bag, has no sugar added, is not processed, grows on a plant, and is not cooked. E.G. Fruits and vegetables. The following rules apply:
- Do not consume meat.
- Do not consume dairy.
- Do not eat anything with gluten. (Just in case you have an intolerance towards it).
- Try where you can to eat organic.
- Try and stay away from oils, even vegetable oils, and overt fats like those in nuts.
An acne-free breakfast is something without grease or processed sugar. No sweet cereals, breakfast meats or eggs. Animal milk should be avoided at all costs.
Green smoothies are the key to getting rid of acne (obviously plant food is they key, but smoothies are easy):
LOTS of Bananas. These will provide needed calories for the day.
Berries – antioxidants.
Kale, Spinach and/or other leafy greens. (A large handful.. add more as you get adjusted to the taste)
Water, not milk.
I recommend steamed potatoes and tomato sauce, otherwise known as gnocchi! You can also add some lentils, or beans in there. This is surprisingly tastey. You won’t die from eating simple.
Feel free to also follow recipes including: black eye peas, garbanzo beans (chickpeas), navy beans, pinto beans, white beans, beans, lima peas, green beans, carrot, corn, sweet potato, asparagus, beetroot, broccoli … you get the picture, as long as it is a plant!
Drink lots, and lots, and lots of water. You should pee clear on every bathroom visit. That is the rule.
Exercise.. sweating will help the natural oils and sweat flow through your pores, embrace the sweat and dirt, avoid the chemicals like the plague! Make sure you exercise and sweat at least once a day. Go on a ten minute run, swim or bike ride!
If you follow the directions above you should start to see dramatic improvement of your acne problems within two weeks. A plant-based diet will surely improve other areas of your life as well just as it has mine.
